February 07, 2026
At approximately 2:54 a.m. on February 7, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Great Lakes Street.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single-wide mobile home partially involved in fire. The home was occupied at the time; however, the resident was outside the structure upon arrival with burn injuries. Crews initiated a transitional attack, beginning fire suppression from the exterior before transitioning to an interior attack.
The fire was located in the living room and is believed to be electrical in nature.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in under 10 minutes, with full extinguishment completed within approximately 30 minutes. The structure was determined to be a total loss. A primary search was conducted to confirm no additional occupants were inside the home after the resident indicated he was the sole occupant. No pets were reported inside the residence.
The resident was transported from the scene by Leon County EMS. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced resident.
Responding units included Engine 3, Truck 3, Battalion 3, Engine 101, Engine 1, Battalion 1, and FireMed 1. TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS, City of Tallahassee Utilities, and the American Red Cross.
Winter Electrical Safety Reminder:
The Tallahassee Fire Department reminds residents to use space heaters with caution, keep them at least three feet away from combustible materials, and never plug them into extension cords or power strips. Have damaged cords, overloaded outlets, or flickering lights inspected to help reduce the risk of electrical fires.
